I don't think that the brand matters much. But there are always differences in quality. The polychromos pencils from Farber Castell, for example, are very high in pigments which is what makes them so great. Some cheaper pencils might be very low in pigments. But there are also inexpensive pencils that are good for a start. And I've also heard very positive things about Crayola pencils but I haven't used them yet. If you want to you can just try them out and see if you like them. C:
